The concept that any employer hires workers they don’t need because they are cheap is not only illogical, but it demeans workers. Employers usually hold off hiring for as long as they can for any wage and push the extra work onto existing workers. Wages don’t drive demand for labor. More customers with money in hand to purchase goods and services do, and that is what we get when we raise wages. Some costs may escalate, but even that is greatly overstated and the economic activity producing velocity in the currency more than makes up for it.
