9 Reasons Why Seattle is Better for Start-Ups

Seattle > The Valley

Napster co-founder Jordan Ritter agrees. He spoke to Geekwire about the issue today:

“There’s a spaciousness here. There is room for growth that I don’t think exists in Silicon Valley right now,” says Ritter. “(Silicon Valley) is a crammed city, a crammed area. It is attracting more and more people, and I sense the experience of pressure building up.”

Ritter paints a dark image of The Valley — who knew a Napster co-founder was so good with words? If this eloquent expression of hatred isn’t enough for you, here are my top 9 reasons why Seattle is a better environment for start-ups:

  1. You can actually afford a house here, because you know having somewhere to live is nice. I’ve even heard it increases your work productivity.
  2. The Seahawks. Sorry 49ers but we are now associated with winning and you are not.
Evil genius if I’ve ever seen one

3. Amazon is taking over the world, move here and maybe you can get in on the halo-effect.

4. People are actually still impressed that you founded a start-up here. In The Valley even the guy making your coffee has a start-up, nobody cares about you.

5. We have a larger influx of friendly Canadians. Who doesn’t like friendly Canadians?

6. Seattle is the most literate city in the country, because you know you might want some smart employees for that start-up you’re creating with your barista. (See reason #4)

7. Seattle-lites are famously introverted and tend to not be braggy douchebags. So if you don’t like braggy douchebags you may enjoy living here.

This guy looks pretty desperate. Let’s start a Kickstarter to relocate him to Seattle.

8. The Valley has the worst gender imbalance in the country. So if you’re a single guy no amount of Tinder is going to get you a girlfriend.

Google is wise

9. Auto-complete on Google is an excellent metric for judging any topic. That must be why they’ve put up offices in Seattle.

What do you think? Are you already packing your bags? Did I miss any reasons of why Seattle is awesome, because we all know there are many. Are you from The Valley and want to defend it? Let’s hear it @olesyalu
