I prepared a list of questions to your future employer as a part of my conference speech:
Organizational structure and work processes
- Can I count on a workstation (what kind?) and workspace in the office/home/co-working? Do I have to work onsite?
- How is the equipment maintained in working and up to date condition?
- Outstaff or custom development?
- What is the level of reporting: is the time tracked, are logs collected from the computer, is the screen recorded. Do employees have local administrator rights on their work computers?
- What is the team’s seniority balance and are there any plans to change it?
- Where do QA’s areas of responsibility and influence begin and end?
Project tasks
- Is overtime practiced and, if so, how often and how is it paid?
- Do you divide your goals into technical and business? If so, how do you evaluate the importance of one over the other?
- How does the company communicate effectively with complex customers?
- What kind of project am I being considered for? Tell me about its time frame and fundability?
- What opportunities are provided for employees to change projects and career tracks at will?
✨ Financial conditions✨
- Is the bench paid and if so, how long and how much? What are the expectations of employees during this time?
- What is the process for performance review, indexation, bonuses and grading? How much is the raise?
- What are the benefits from the company: insurance, languages, sports, 100% sick leave?
Stability and prospects
- How does the company guarantee job stability? Is it possible to see a sample contract in advance?
- How does the company mitigate the risk of project closures or budget cuts?
- What training programs are available to employees, and how does the company ensure they are relevant to career development?
- What resources are accessible: conferences, courses, certifications, personal development plans, mentoring, non-project time?
- What are some notable customers who are not under NDA?
Communication and engagement
- What is the company’s policy on organizing corporate events and outsourcers’ participation in them?
- How does the company provide a sense of belonging and engagement for employees working remotely?
- How does the company ensure transparency regarding the real cost of employee services to the customer and comply with the principle of fair payment?
- Are employees provided with objective feedback on their skills?
- Name the disadvantages of working in this company and something you like about it.
