I prepared a list of questions to your future employer as a part of my conference speech:

Organizational structure and work processes

  1. Can I count on a workstation (what kind?) and workspace in the office/home/co-working? Do I have to work onsite?
  2. How is the equipment maintained in working and up to date condition?
  3. Outstaff or custom development?
  4. What is the level of reporting: is the time tracked, are logs collected from the computer, is the screen recorded. Do employees have local administrator rights on their work computers?
  5. What is the team’s seniority balance and are there any plans to change it?
  6. Where do QA’s areas of responsibility and influence begin and end?

Project tasks

  1. Is overtime practiced and, if so, how often and how is it paid?
  2. Do you divide your goals into technical and business? If so, how do you evaluate the importance of one over the other?
  3. How does the company communicate effectively with complex customers?
  4. What kind of project am I being considered for? Tell me about its time frame and fundability?
  5. What opportunities are provided for employees to change projects and career tracks at will?

✨ Financial conditions✨

  1. Is the bench paid and if so, how long and how much? What are the expectations of employees during this time?
  2. What is the process for performance review, indexation, bonuses and grading? How much is the raise?
  3. What are the benefits from the company: insurance, languages, sports, 100% sick leave?

Stability and prospects

  1. How does the company guarantee job stability? Is it possible to see a sample contract in advance?
  2. How does the company mitigate the risk of project closures or budget cuts?
  3. What training programs are available to employees, and how does the company ensure they are relevant to career development?
  4. What resources are accessible: conferences, courses, certifications, personal development plans, mentoring, non-project time?
  5. What are some notable customers who are not under NDA?

Communication and engagement

  1. What is the company’s policy on organizing corporate events and outsourcers’ participation in them?
  2. How does the company provide a sense of belonging and engagement for employees working remotely?
  3. How does the company ensure transparency regarding the real cost of employee services to the customer and comply with the principle of fair payment?
  4. Are employees provided with objective feedback on their skills?
  5. Name the disadvantages of working in this company and something you like about it.
