Fruutie Cup
Final Idea + Recipe:
Recipe:
Ingredients:
Granny Smith Apple
Choice of small fruit such as blueberries or raspberries (my choice was raspberries)
Hershey’s milk chocolate bar
Caramel
Butter (Optional)
Cooking material:
Cupcake aluminum foil mold
Cutting knife
Two bowls
Spoon
I believe this idea is creative because of the my changes to the ingredients usually involved in a cookie while also making it a healthier selection and maintaining form for the definition of a cookie.
Directions:

- Slice your choice of apple into slices that are half an inch thick.

2. (Optional)Butter the aluminum cupcake cups with butter to make it easier for the chocolate to come off the cups.

3. Place Hershey milk chocolate into the bowl.

4. Place in microwave for 45 seconds with the power level being 50 percent.

5. Spread melted Hershey chocolate on to the cupcake foil.

6. Place the covered cupcake foils into the freezer for 5–10 minutes.

7. Take the foils out of the freezer and peel the foil from the chocolate mold.

8. Put caramel into and microwave for 30 seconds.

8. Place the chocolate cupcake mold on top of the sliced apple and put raspberries inside the mold.

9. Place melted caramel on top of the raspberries.

10. Place second slice of apple on top and the fruutie cake is created.

Idea Generation:

For idea generation, I started with compiling a list of possible changes I could do to the change the concept of a cookie based off of the categories that we were allowed to innovate. These categories included texture, form, and ingredients
Idea Test 1: My first idea involved changing the form of the cookie by using common household items. So I started with the innovating the form by creating a cookie volcano. Under are the ingredients I used to test this idea.

My process included shaping the volcano using the top piece of an air freshener.

Unfortunately when I placed this in the oven using the muffin it ended up flatting, looking like this.

Idea Test 2: My next idea test involved developing the shape of the cookie dough into the form of a pen which could be used for possibly writing chocolate ink with if the shape of the pen could hold using a similar ingredients as the first idea test.

I began to stuff the utensil with the cookie dough and placed it in the refrigerator to pack and mold properly into the form of a pen.

Unfortunately even with use of the refrigerator to stiffen and mold the cookie dough into the form of the pen, extracting the cookie dough from the cooking utensil turned out to be unsuccessful in keeping the shape after several trials testing different amounts of time placing the cookie dough into the refrigerator.

This test proved to be unsuccessful as well in keeping the form of the new cookie idea.
Iteration: After trying out my first two new cookie ideas, I went back to the beginning to innovate a different part of traditional cookie making. It seemed the use of cookie dough was preventing me from developing the cookie forms I was trying to create. Instead of continuing to change the form of the cookie with this method, I decided to change the ingredients usually involved in making cookies based off the formal definition of a cookie which typically includes a “round” bottom.
Basing off of this I adjusted the ingredients of the cookie to involve fruits that can be morphed into a round bottom for the cookie while keeping certain ingredients as well. This fruit in particular was a granny smith apple.

I could iterate the form I am trying to innovate through another dessert using its mold. The cupcake.

By using this mold to form the chocolate for the cookie combined with the base of the cookie using a sliced granny smith apple I could develop a healthier hand food while maintaining the form of a cookie. This could be done without the cookie dough as well.
Timeline:
9/04/2018- Create Medium account and begin to discuss potential food ideas related to flavor, form, texture, etc. with my co-workers as well as my roommates once I arrive home.
9/05/2018- Conduct some research online to find out whether any of the recipe ideas for a new cookie have already been created, talk with my dad who is a former chief about his opinion of some of the ideas I have that can be feasible in my kitchen.
9/06/2018- Pick between 2–4 recipe ideas that are different based on the type of innovation the recipe idea is providing to the end customer. Find out where I can find the ingredients, equipment, and possibly advice for the recipe ideas by doing a google search to find the nearest bakery goods store.
9/08/2018- Work with friends who are passionate about cooking to conduct an all day cooking event by trying each recipe idea to see if they are feasible while taking notes of the process and if needed iteration on certain recipes to provide actual innovation. Take photos of the progress and the end result for the blog.
9/09/2018- Based on the notes and cooking marathon choose the recipe idea this is the most feasible and produce a dozen of them as a trial run to determine if it needs any more iteration or editing. If its a success take photos on post them on the blog. Let the cookies sit overnight
9/10/2018- See how the cookies are doing in the morning and if there are any problems with their form or taste after sitting out all night. If all is good continue posting about it on the blog. Have friends and roommates test them out to see what they think of the final cookie recipe.
9/11/2018- Finish blog post about the final cookie recipe idea.
9/13/2018- Bake the cookies in the morning to be presented to the class in the afternoon. Finish peer review blogs in the evening.
