Great post. Technologically, I think we’re there. It’s obviously already possible to deploy IoT infrastructure at the 10–100k scale with real-time optics (although it has a rather large computational footprint). Curious to get your thoughts on the optics of this, though. It’s clever to use folks who are staring the opportunity cost in the face, but I can imagine the general public is probably pretty onboard with the instrumentation-as-invasion mindset, regardless of whether it’s private or publicly funded/controlled.
