The Spot Café: Healthy Food and Happy People

Situated on the seaside Second Street of Long Beach, the Spot Café offers a pleasant collection of healthy meals freshly made from natural ingredients. As a loyal customer who has visited this lovely place at least more than a dozen times, my highest praise of it may seem a little biased. To be attracted to its food is as instant as to feel welcomed when you are graciously greeted by the toothy-smile waiters and Hugo Horta, one of the owners who believe that healthy food make happy people.

Seemingly in honor of its savory food, the interior design has a sharp sense of happiness. While the walls colored with artsy oil paintings, pictures of fruits, a periodic table of vegetables, the space itself is bright, spotless, and astutely simple. The reddish brown hardwood furniture gives an air of forest. It is a low-key, recreational ranch built on the most hustling street of the modern City of Long Beach. No real cows or roosters, though. Only a plantation grows a plate of 100% Vegan Pizza or a 24oz bottle of Orange Clockwork Smoothie that powers up your day with clean energy.

I am a die-hard fan of their Basil Chicken. Nurtured by a thick sheet of dripping basil pesto sauce, the chicken was tangy, rich, a bit salty, and properly peppered. Presenting the meat was a garden of succulent spinach leaves. Dark and green, the boiled veggie filled up my mouth with a touch of refreshing, sweet juice. The amount of this plate is all I ever need for two meals. It usually comes with brown rice or white rice, but I like it this way.

If you miss out the Spot Café’s acai bowls, you miss the best of it. A creamy nourishment that could serve as simple breakfast or afternoon dessert, acai bowls are a blend of acai berries and other fruits with toppings of your choice. Today I had Brazilian Bowl. Mixed with acai, banana, mango, and apple juice, this fruity carnival was drizzled with honey, kiwi, and granola that added extra crunchy to this purple-colored delight.
In addition to its spirit-lifting cuisine, the Spot Café also provides affordable meal plans and delivers 7 days a week. It costs only $60 to enjoy five breakfast meals and five lunch meals. I used the plan once and found it appealing and economical for those who have little time for cooking. The meals can be kept fresh in the fridge. When your stomach calls for fulfillment, just warm it up and you are good to go.
A farmland with tasty goods, the Spot Café was established by partners Hugo Horta and Mitchell Stein, as a place to provide healthy food for their second child, Tuolumne. When Tuolumne was born, she suffered from illness and could not ingest any processed food. The boys then set out to live a cleaner life with only natural ingredients. In 2013, the duo opened up this restaurant to share what they believe.
Delicious, grassy, and pleasing. Drop by and have a bite.
Not only in Long Beach, the Spot Café also has two other spots in Claremont and Upland.
