New F1 logo

Very keen to see what the general public make of this new logo. Designed by Wieden+Kennedy, the logo aims to represent the movement of the car and the bends of the track. Which brings us to my issue with this redesign.

As you can see, if this is meant to represent the movement of the car, it’s way off the mark. Not even Maldonado would take that line! As you can see by my vastly improved mock-up, the racing line should clip the apex, not the casual Sunday drive depicted in the official logo.

Racing technicalities aside, I really can’t make my mind up on this logo. It’s simplified, and in doing so, will probably make F1 reach a wider audience than before, but it’s lost some of the character of the old one, not to mention the clever use of negative space.

Nevertheless, it should be interesting to see how this plays out with the fans and teams in the upcoming season.

Old F1 Logo, 1994–2017. RIP.
