Totally agree that a points system works far better than days. The key for me is that points let you define any baseline you want for a given task of a given size, which you can then extrapolate from. It really doesn’t matter if that baseline task is assigned 1, 2 or 10 pts — all that matters is it’s size relative to other tasks.

If you apply that to a concept of days to measure output, that baseline becomes far more controversial — and is likely to become less and less accurate as the team change in expertise and pace over time.
