HCAHPS Patient Survey

Aim

To evaluate whether the HCAHPS survey has been successful in accomplishing some specific goals

About the Project

The dashboard features a clean and intuitive design that allows users to quickly gain insights from the data.

There are FIVE visuals strategically placed to provide key metrics and summaries. These visuals are designed as CHARTS, making them easily distinguishable from the rest of the dashboard elements. There are also card where each focuses on specific aspects of the survey data.

  • Each HCAHPS report is identified by a unique identifier
  • The survey results included in each report pertain to patients who were discharged between the “Start Date” and “End Date” specified in that report on a slicer.
  • The dataset includes the state abbreviation and full state name for the 50 US States (plus DC — District of Columbia).
  • States are categorized into groups based on definitions by the United States Census Bureau.
  • Each HCAHPS measure is represented by a unique identifier and corresponds to specific questions on the HCAHPS survey.
  • The measures are categorized as “Composite measures” (comprising multiple survey questions), “Individual Items,” or “Global Items” (tied to a single question).
Care Transition Measure
  • The “Question Num” represents the question number as it appears on the HCAHPS patient survey.
  • Each question is linked to the measure it relates to and is presented in the survey.
  • The “Bottom-box Answer,” “Middle-box Answer,” and “Top-box Answer” represent the answers considered least positive, intermediate, and most positive, respectively.
  • The “National Results” table contains data related to HCAHPS reports at the national level.
  • The “State Results” table contains data related to HCAHPS reports at the state level.
Composite Measure
  • The “Responses” table includes unique identifiers for hospitals that participated in the HCAHPS patient survey, completed surveys from patients discharged during the specified report period, and the response rate as a percentage.
  • I recommend that hospitals should always seek opinions from patients in other to serve them better.
