Is Dermaplaning the new Botox ?

Shaving isn’t just for men ya’ll !

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a 10 gauge scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead skin cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion(which sounds vaguely Grey’s Anatomy-esque)

It needs to be done by a professional — so please do not take a scalpel to your own face in your bathroom mirror — but takes only a few minutes and doesn’t hurt at all. It’s basically shaving for your skin, instead of your hair, and will leave you positively glowing.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? — 30 minutes

ARE THERE IMMEDIATE SIDE EFFECTS? — There are no side effects and zero downtime. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may already look very pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyper pigmentation.

Dermaplaning should be administered by a board certified dermatologist or licensed aesthetician who specializes in this procedure. “An aesthetician has to be licensed in the state she is practicing in.

WHO SHOULD AVOID DERMAPLANING ? — People with eczema, lesions, people with inflamed, angry red weeping skin, those with dermatitis and undiagnosed skin lesions or bumps should check with their doctor first to get a go ahead for shaving the skin. Women with more facial hair may expect a thicker hair growth ( which perhaps they wish to avoid) once they start shaving their face. So I guess even such women should avoid shaving their faces.
