Week 33–2024
Just like a flash, another week has come and gone! And I believe you’re already planning for the new week. I said “You” 😆 because I don’t think I am ready for another week just yet. Especially thinking about how slowly I started the just concluded week.
I was on my bed until around 7am or so on Monday morning. I honestly did not feel like getting up, going out or doing anything. Maybe it was stress or fatigue, I don’t know but I eventually snapped out of it and got up to prepare for work. Considering Lagos traffic and the fact that it was a Monday morning, I was almost certain of getting to the office late, but miraculously, I got in some minutes to 9 o’clock (at my office, you’re only considered late if you get in after 9am) so I was safe. The road was surprisingly free also on Monday evening. I mean, I got home from the office under 30 minutes!
Apparently, whoever it is who is in charge of road repairs in Lagos State eventually got their team to fix the road leading up to the third mainland bridge over the weekend (I think), making the flow of traffic really seamless. That got me to question how our Governments think really. This was the same road where I’ve spent an average of 2 hours daily to get home from work for the past 2 months. All because some folks woke up one morning and started digging up different parts of the road. If their intention was to repair, then I think they should have done that as fast as possible bearing in mind that the road is a major one but no! I can’t understand how they think! Now, to get home from work is fast and easy but to get to work in the morning is hectic. Why? They’ve gone to dig up different parts of that side of the road too! 😢.
For like the second occasion in my PM career, I found myself on the interviewer end of the table this week. I spent about 2 hours on Tuesday speaking to candidates who we’re intending to bring into the product team at my workplace. For me, it was an opportunity to learn. Not because the interviewees were going to say things I had not heard before (or maybe they did 😁), instead the lessons I learn from these kind of interactions are more around human psychology than product sense. By the way, I had a demo on Tuesday morning that felt so smooth until some disturbing conversations ensued around the product towards COB. That somewhat unsettled me, I won’t lie, but on a closer look at the issues raised, they are things within our control and we can definitely resolve them soon.
My wife was under the weather on Wednesday evening so I had to work from home on Thursday. Meanwhile, my final project for the Cloud engineering diploma I’m currently undertaking at Altschool was due for submission on Friday, so I tried to make the most of my Thursday to prepare the project documentation for submission. I’ve spent the past year learning about different cloud technologies and the project really tested those learnings 😫. Maybe someday I’ll get to write about the project.
The highlight of the week for me was getting small chops to take home from the office on Friday evening 😉.
Oh, yesterday wasn’t so cool. I couldn’t believe we spent almost the entire day at the laundromat. Like, we left the house past 9am and got back home past 6pm (that’s about 9 hours) because of the queue. I was so exhausted and my wife was too! And it’s beginning to feel like it’s high time we bought a washing machine ‘cos I can’t imagine myself going through yesterday’s experience ever again. The delay was not really because there were a lot of customers waiting to wash (though we met few people waiting when we got there) instead, it was more because half of the machines at the laundromat were out of service and that’s a worrying way to run a business, in my opinion.
Anyways, nothing gave me more joy in the midst of all the delay than watching my beloved Arsenal take to the field again. The premier league is back baby! 💃 And the Gunners started with a bang yesterday. We expertly dispatched Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates and I’m sure they must be wondering how they ended up losing. All thanks to the dagger from Bukayo Saka (my Starboy!). His goal came just when Wolves were dominating the game and that took the steam out of them. Well, I’m happy to have my boys back and I hope we go on to prove our doubters wrong this season.
Tomorrow, we go again!
Have a pleasant week and remember to celebrate your wins, no matter how little.
Cheers!
