If the period of watching big brother be of all things the most precious, watching the show must be the greatest prodigality

In the recent last few days, my trips in Lagos to work have been stimulating but most times annoying. Stimulating because I enjoy the 5:00am cordial relationship amongst the strangers I share the ride with, and also 6:00pm arrival gist on the long third main land bridge traffic. Am always glad about how the island boys and babes will rush to enter the car while pushing each other, and just ten (10) minutes into the trip, there is a cordial relationship that makes them grow fonder, and I sometimes be like “are you not sure these guys stained themselves before getting into this ride?” You will be astonished by the decibel of noise in the energy of the laughter. The last time I observed Lagosians having such ride sharing conversation was during the presidential electioneering period in 2015. During this period, passengers never had cordial relationships, it most times ended in serial misunderstandings and you will sometimes imagine that the two factions of passengers planned the ride to be a battle ground.

That’s by gone, at least we are living happily ever after and every one now eagerly look up to their morning ride. I find this ride crisp because these youths I share my ride with most times forget their ethnicity and discuss about the Big Brother Naija (BBN) show like they are from the same lineage. I wish every discussion could be this crisp when youths discuss about their independent ethnicity, culture, lineage and other differences.

It is obvious that the Big Brother show has contributed to our relationships positively, but the negative effects are playing more roles than the latter. The immorality appended to our society is irritating, though the organizers have claimed it is rated 18 (R18), they have failed to realize that there is nothing to regulate the age of viewers, meaning that my seven (7) year old niece can tune in to watch. Well, I have no problem with its immorality, it is left for parents to monitor what their wards pay attention to via every analogue and digital medium.

But the real problem this show has put to us today is not far from the fact that is has reduced our intellectual production drastically. As much as I have no data to support this, you will agree with me that most offices now discuss about the show for the first few hours of their daily task even after the discussion during their independent morning rides, for offices that own a TV, their case is even worse. Staff now consume their work period watching a 247 reality show.

Has anyone realized the strategy been demystified by viewers to decide who will be up next for eviction? It’s indeed appalling that none of this sect ever invest this strategy to the nation’s progress except to criticize the government. Have we failed to remember that we are watching the house mates carrying out their own daily tasks? Even evicted house mates are now getting opportunities as to become ambassadors for brands. This fact makes it obvious that they have a green Key Performance Indicator

I will resonate that the show has no solution to societal issues, so why spend such time?

Stop being prodigal, I will accept the fact that it’s a reality show and should be viewed, but not 24 hours all seven (7) days. The producers are doing nothing but increasing their own profit at the expense of your own time.

I recommend that the audience should take advantage of the show strictly by reading a post or blog to follow the house’ activities rather than the twenty-four hour view, may be this will improve the viewers’ reading culture and after the three (3) months of blog post readership addiction, defaulters might end up having no choice than reading national issues and opinions about solving them.

Now we can migrate from being prodigal to being a lot more economical.
