Writing one of the guest posts I though of lack of creativity in writing. That is why I decided to share with you this cool creative writing exercises:

1. Switch Persona

switch persona

Try writing a mini-story in the first person. But you should make the character with the different gender, different nationality, and different age:)

2. Imaginary dictionary

dictionary

Find your dictionary and open it on a random page. Than you should find a word that you don’t know (the definition). Take a piece of paper and try to write an imaginary definition for it. Repeat. It is quite fun :)

3. First things

first kiss

We remember all our “first times and things” the best. So, describe your first kiss, your first pet, your first friend, first trip or day of school . I think all these should be a great stories:)

4. Pin the Atlas

old map

You need to take a world map and blindly put your finger on a spot. Than imagine that your a traveling writer. Write your experience and impressions about this country :)

5. 7&7&7

I think you should have a huge bookshelf. Then take the 7th book from the bookshelf. (If you have a huge library you can take the book from the 7th shelf) Open it up to page 7. Read the 7th sentence and begin a poem that begins with that sentence. You should limit the length of the poem to 7 lines :)

6. Selling the pet

sell the turtle

Do you have a pet? What about a turtle? You should try to write an advert selling a turtle as a family pet for example :)

7. Creating a poem

advertisement poems

You should find two ads in newspaper or actually anywhere else. Then create a poem using the words from these two ads. It’s my favorite one exercise:)

8. Puzzles from the magazine

magazine puzzles

Find some magazines and cut out interesting phrases, words and images. Place them and mix in a bowl, pull out two of these magazine snippets with your eyes closed. In such way write a mini-story. Try to limit it not more than 300 words:)

9. Dear me…

write a letter

Write a letter to yourself in future. Think well what to write and what to wish. It is quite an interesting exercise as you can save this letter and open it for example after 10 years :)

10. Your memories

Write short stories. Start the paragraph with a phrase “ I Remember…”. For example, write about things you remember from the very childhood. :)

I hope you will enjoy this exercises and they will help to enrich your creativity in writing. Besides I’d like to share you a great article How to get Ideas for Blog Posts

It would be great if you let me know what was the most interesting and helpful for you. Besides you can publish what you created in comments, so we all can have a look:)

xoxo
