Just Don’t Take The Money
“Don’t take the money.”
It’s become one of my go-to sayings.
Don’t get me wrong…I want money. I want to see my accounts grow. I need money to grow my business. I need money to live the life I want to live. But at the end of the day, taking the money in a situation that asks you to compromise yourself or your business values is not worth it.
You have to follow the light when you see it.
You have to trust your gut when it tells you something.
Don’t take the money just to add another $3k to your account this month. Don’t take a raise and expect it to be enough to keep you at a job that already makes you miserable. Don’t use money as a justification for working with a difficult, disrespectful client. Don’t use money as a factor in deciding to work on a project that makes your skin crawl and goes against everything you believe in.
Take the money when you feel like it fits into the purpose of what you’re working towards. Take the money when the stars align. Take the money when your integrity is valued.
Don’t just take the money. Stay on track, don’t take the money and give into your principles. If you have to give up who you are, what you believe in, how you work, and the vision you have for your company and yourself…remember: “Don’t take the money.”
