I am one of those rare engineers with an MBA. I couldn’t agree more. Unless your name is Tony Stark and you dad handed you an empire when he died, you have gaps in your skills, gaps in your knowledge base that are best complemented by a diverse group of cofounders for the exact reason you’ve given: debate. When you add experiences together from a diverse background, ideas grow exponentially, not linearly and your chances of success are greatly increased.
You might get lucky working alone, but why waste time and effort on luck when you do better together? The only major down side is for people who don’t have large networks, don’t know people, and have a horrible time trying to socialize outside their existing social and professional circles. That is an uphill battle to make the connections to find cofounders who can bring life to the ideation process.
