There’s no secret to overcome writer’s block.
Between foggy ideas and wordless pages, a sense of defeat stems in. Hours turn to days procrastination sets in due to lack of motivation to craft an idea out of your mind. Even though you get that impulse motivation it slowly sheds off shortly after you start writing resulting into a series of half backed projects always looking for a new start.
Lack of self-drive to create has destroyed a lot of talented artists sportsmen musicians among others.many promising craftsmanships has been pushed off the cliff breaking into small pieces by resistance. Resistance being a point of action-gap, Postponing what needs to be dealt now for the hope of a better inspired time. Long periods of procrastinating leads to lose on both ends; sub standard delivery on what we already know and no progressive development of new skills.
After much thought, i came to a realization that acknowledgment that resistance is the part of me blocking which blocks creativity. Overcoming it is the only way to find your intuitive creativity by forging a way through it.Recognize that writing is not the hardest part but sitting down to write is.
Hey!!! we always put the blame on something to justify our shortcomings.Inch by inch chipping off the base of our creative pillar, the moment we do not act in the face of fear. Drinking a little bit more to calm stage fight, fear of criticism, am too old to start now, snoozing alarms in such of “someday” moment ill do better we lose a fight before throwing a punch.
The Pinnacle of all creativity is getting in sync with a writing process. Attaining the confidence to work without the need of recognition from anyone.Reaching an environment at which creativity is intuned with your writing process producing a harmonic outcome.
Crash writing a process designed to merge the author and story into one.In an interview with 2017 Noble prize winner in literature Kazoo Ishiguro gives an account of his pattern;
During the Crash, I would do nothing but write from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. I’d get one hour off for lunch and two for dinner. I’d not see, let alone answer, any mail, and would not go near the phone. No one would come to the house. Lorna, despite her own busy schedule, would for this period do my share of the cooking and housework. In this way, so we hoped, I’d not only complete more work quantitatively but reach a mental state in which my fictional world was more real to me than the actual one.
Its evident prolific writing is gained through a set of work ethics than full reliance on inspiration.
To outdo resistance through the following set of actions.
Create your sanctuary.
Set aside a place you go to with less or no distraction for hours. Somewhere you can quickly access. Ready your tools each time you finish a session for the next encounter. Home studios produce the best sound engineers cause each eureka moment can be easily tested n implemented immediately when it comes to mind, instead of traveling far to commercial studios
Pre-decisions.
Set small cues which trigger a behavior. It’s more likely to begin a habit if it is perceived to take a fraction of a second.A few months back I came to learn about morning pages; free handwriting a couple of pages with a stream of thoughts right after waking up to improve prose writing- breaking your block with purposeful creativity.I’d always skip it when I had to wake from bed to go journal at the study room. Results started trickling in right after I started journaling while still in bed.By simply placing my pen and journal on the nightstand, I wrote more unjudged thoughts with bad handwriting while at it forming a habit.Input cues into your daily activities to alert you often on what to do next. Set clock reminders, have gym partners to make you have a sense of responsibility to show up.Small steps towards your desired goal are attainable but even smaller steps make you unconsciously do them thereafter engrave a habit.
Meditation.
Meditation is like a warm bath to your mind.
“Simply pulling yourself from the rain and watching the rain through a window” Tim Ferris
Center yourself to the present moment become the watcher as The power of now suggest.Removing yourself from a situation brings more clarity on what exact steps need to be taken to fruition.Believe in your outcomes as the best you can provide in the present moment.Learn from your mistakes but never dwell on the past improve on whats at hand for the present will soon be your past.
Power walks and jogging can be a good reflective practice get a pocket size note pad have it with you at all times to jot down ideas popping up while out of your sanctuary to review them later.
In conclusion.
Let the above simple thoughts guide you to a creative space which will set motion to the enlightenment of untapped creativity , while the novice waits for inspiration to sit down and write.
Resistance is always present at the begin of each chapter, acknowledge its presence then drill through it.
