Starting Over?

In the words of Pastor Olushola, “Discipline comes with obsession. It is doing what is demanded, not what is convenient.” These words resonated with me deeply, triggering a profound transformation in my life.

Growing up, I had an aversion to the word “discipline” because I was often a slave to my desires. I chose convenience over commitment, procrastination over progress, and the fear of judgment over putting myself out there on social media. “What would they say?” I often wondered. These fears held me back, and I watched as others with similar fears took action and achieved remarkable results.

Then, my worst nightmare became a reality when my LinkedIn account got restricted. As a marketing specialist navigating the world of tech, having a LinkedIn presence was crucial. I felt helpless, drained of all my efforts, and, yes, I even shed a few tears😂😭 .

But then, I decided to reach out to my sister and my mentor. Their encouragement helped me, and I made a decision: I made a bold choice: I was going to start over. Now, I can almost hear you thinking, “Start over? From scratch? How? Where?” Trust me, those were some of my own valid concerns too. But the thing is, if I didn’t take this leap, I’d just be treading water, right?

So, whilst trying to recover my LinkedIn account, I thought, why not branch out elsewhere? I wanted to put myself out there, and become the best version of myself. It reminds me of something Tonye Cole once said, “While some folks see problems, others see opportunities.” And you know what? I’m all about seizing those opportunities.

After processing my emotions I thought, “Why not take this chance to rebuild and forge some meaningful connections?” It was definitely time to “gbera” (for those of you not in the know, that’s some Nigerian slang for getting back on your feet). And you know what that led to? Putting out their very first blog, the one you’re reading this very moment. I won’t sugar coat it, it took heaps of strength and courage, but here I am!

So, without too much “Shalaye” (explantions) Hello, my name is Omolola Toriola, A.k.a “Oranmonisefayati” (The one who is backed by God), a marketing specialist and a Design enthusiast. I’m navigating the tech world, solving problems as they come, and embracing change with open arms.
