Great post! Sad that I didn’t have the guts earlier in my career to assert myself in this fashion (read quit when I had crappy bosses). When I found my first great boss, she became a trusted career confidante and a friend. However, I wish that more companies pushed for stronger mentorship programs internally, rather than lip-service — or using it as a way to snag a strong candidate.
