chainEDGE 101

6 min readMar 7, 2023

Overview

chainEDGE was developed and founded by Onchain Wizard, who has seen first hand how hard it is to get started in trading DEX tokens without getting rug pulled or being somebody elses exit liquidity as they promote their tokens on Twitter. With chainEDGE, the hope is that any level of trader can find the best emerging DEX token opportunities, before they are more common knowledge and posted on platforms like Twitter. In our public Beta alone, we have received feedback from many users on how chainEDGE has helped them make money in the opaque and complex crypto market. Note: this is not a guarantee that you will make money using this tool.

So what does chainEDGE do? Our main core engine algorithmically enriches blockchain data to separate out the best DEX traders in the world in a digestible way. We have different categories of traders, including highest realized P&L, early movers to new tokens, crypto funds and high hit rate catalyst/tactical traders (more detailed labels coming soon). Said another way, the power use of this tool is to get a real time view of what the best crypto traders in the world are doing. Other features that will be covered later include the ability to explore swaps of any wallet or any wallet bundle and set up alerts.

How to use chainEDGE

Swap Summary Dashboard:

Once you login, you will see our “Smart Money Net Swaps” overview page. This is swap only data for our cohort of top traders in the world. The data shown by token sums the inflows/outflows by each token, based solely on swaps. This is obviously higher informational value versus transactions such as transfers, liquidity adds/removes or borrowing market transactions. The values are simply cumulative buy + sell transaction values across different date segmentation. Users can filter 1/7/30 day flows by inflows or outflows to see which way the smart money is flowing. Consider this a starting point in your chainEDGE discovery journey.

You can also search by token (top right) to fast track your search for any token you are interested -> please note that if smart money has not interacted with the token, it will not show up in the search. Additionally, users can utilize the “Chain” filters located above the table, to filter for smart money swaps by chain. So if you are interested in new launches or tactical trades on Arbitrum for example, simply click “ARB”. You can also toggle the “No Stables” filter to remove stablecoin flows. Using this dashboard can give you a broad sense of macro skew amongst smart traders, with more stablecoin inflows obviously meaning smart traders are taking off positions to be more defensive. We will have more broad “macro” based analytics rolling out soon after our initial “soft” launch.

Token Summary Dashboard:

To arrive at token level smart money trade data, either click the token in the dashboard page, or search it in the top search bar.

If you click on any token, you will see 3 pieces of information: (1) a chart showing net buy/sell quantity, average entry prices and the current token price. This is a quick way to view when and at what prices smart money is swapping into or out of a token vs. the current trading price.

(2) a summary table of inflows/outflows by wallet address (you can also search our smart money wallets in the top right). This is basically a drill down by wallet of the summary dashboard page.

(3) Our chainEDGE Alpha Stream for the token. This tool is really good for diving into specific transactions for any token. The Alpha Stream shows the address that bought or sold, the tokens involved in a swap, the quantity transacted (next to token name), the prices for the swapped tokens, transaction values and time of swap.

So you can easily see average entries/exits for smart money across this tool, because you can filter the address, buy token or sell token in the table. As an example, you can filter buy tokens for “Blur” and then sort by buy price. Doing this, you can see who had great entries on the token (30–50 cents) vs. recent highs of $0.78. If you want to dive in further, you can remove the buy filter and just search by address (again only our smart money wallets are in this dashboard).

Wallet Explorer:

Alternatively, you can use our explorer to look into any wallet, to dive into their recent trading activity. Simply paste the wallet into the top search bar (where you can also search tokens) and you will get a “alpha stream” style table for the wallet.

Typing in a random wallet I’ve seen discussed in our Onchain Wizard Research Hub, you can see their recent trading activity (click load more to get more transactions). You can also filter these wallet explorer swap tables by chain to see specific flows on each chain.

When you search or look into a specific wallet, there is a “add to my wallets” button on the top right, where you can add them to an alpha stream “bundle” of up to 10 wallets. This way, you can curate a list of your favorite wallets (either chainEDGE smart money traders or your own favorites).

My Wallets:

Clicking add to my wallets will automatically add the wallet to your “wallet watchlist”. A user can add up to 10 of these at a time. Simply click “run wallet data” to get an alpha stream flow table for any 10 wallets! Please note that these tables may get bogged down if you add wallets that are bots are overly active.

Alerts:

Similarly, if you find wallets you like and you want real time alerts on their swap activity, simply click on alerts, and build an alert for any wallet (based on transaction size). Please note these are still in process, and alerts will get “capped” if you add an overly active, bot activity type wallet.

Alpha Stream — Real Time Data:

If you want to see real time trades, you can click on the “Alpha Stream” button on the left hand side of the app. This will spit out the live trading activity across our smart money wallets with just a small amount of latency (around an hour). This latency will be reduced as we roll out our full launch. This data can be filtered by date, wallet, token, entry/exit price and even date ranges can be toggled. Note: the alpha stream currently only operates for 30 days.

Closing

We will be putting out more content as our launch scales up, as we have a large list of new features in the pipeline. This should serve as a basic guide on how to use chainEDGE to improve your trading process. You can find new launches, tokens that are heating up ahead of upcoming narratives, or dive into and diligence specific tokens or wallets.
