Why you would be doing the world more good by taking this up

You must now be clued in every second about the ice bucket challenge and the incessant chatter on social Media . You would have seen CEOs, celebrities, billionaires, people whose opinions matter on social media pouring a bucket full of ice on their heads and posting the video online, and wondering what this Ice Bucket Challenge is

We are ever grateful to Ed Catmull for sharing his snippets of wisdom through his book Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration which have become touchstone for us here at Communyty. A lot of these advice are also mirrored by the Lean Start up principle which is biblical for successful start-ups in every way imaginable.

Here are a few of my personal favorites

Don’t wait for things to be perfect before you share them with others. Show early and show often. …

Stumbling upon Happiness- Daniel Gilbert

Mark Twain quoted “The Man Who Does Not Read Has No Advantage over the Man Who Cannot Read”

There a lot of books that have helped me transform my view of the world and myself. Some Witty, some reflective and yet some others very Deep, but each one has left me with some or the other impression to help me see the world through a different lens. In this series I want to share with you some of these Gems which I am sure will help you too.

The first one, not necessarily in the order of ranking is a brilliant, witty, and easy read by renowned Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert called Stumbling upon Happiness. Remember how the constitution guarantees us the right to everything else but only provides us the right to the Pursuit of Happiness. …

Charity starts at Home

Trust me that wasn’t a typo — for those of you who are so used to this term that you haven’t seen what I have written, please do read it again. Still didn’t get it, don’t bother, I am sure you are very normal to have not noticed it . This phrase has become so common that, be it typing Irresponsibility instead of responsibility or even acting irresponsibly won’t get noticed. For those of us who really haven’t known what it means, in a way we are blessed. …

And then there are the amazing terminologies starting from customer service to customer care to customer delight teams which work round the clock to make these prophecies come true. …

Early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the Cheese

The early bird gets the worm; this has been drilled down into our brains ever since we were toddlers. It’s so over generalized that it’s hard not to keep this mind whether it’s showing up at your office or starting up something.

Entrepreneurs have always been told about the first mover advantage. A lot of brilliant people I have met have either dropped their ideas of startup or have given up midway when they realized they are no longer the first ones in the category. …

Why your mission is important to every employee

One of the constant struggles of any Business, startup or otherwise is to keep employees motivated, engaged and retained. There have been large amounts of research on this and a search on google will yield about 3,51,00,000 pages. Each one advocating various measures starting from better pay and Hikes to making the workplace fun to even letting employees tag their pets to workplace. Why do employees still leaves, worse why do employees drift as dead wood in some cases creating more damage.

Especially for a startup this can be a huge challenge, firstly attracting talent and then getting them to stay can be an arduous task which will take more time and investments than anything else. When they go wrong, it shakes the very existence of the startup. You could try any of the tactics suggested by the numerous Human resource gurus based on your business context and then wait for the miracle. The challenge is not about employees leaving, often times it’s a good problem to have. The challenge is to have them be at their productive best when they are with you and have them believe, they are creating an impact for you and for themselves. …
