Dove Playground: Swing by Dakota Crescent today

The dove playground is a symbolic sign that represents Dakota Crescent, which is one of the less prominent but oldest playground designs that’s still around today.

This shot is specially angled such that the playground’s different forms — such as the triangle structure and rectangle metal railings — can be seen clearly; the various sizes of the triangle shapes sets the dynamism of play.

The large triangle structure of the playground drawn by different mosaic tiles and walls highlights zest and synergy, for a child to explore its different ‘sectors’. The creation of shadows and shades on the two girls playing with the swing serves as a refuge, which helps the viewer to establish that they are positioned below the structure.

The interpositions of the sisters show that the elder sister is pushing the swing; the younger sister is in control of the ‘smaller triangle’ created by the swing, where her happy expression also complements the soft glow of the playground’s infrastructure, and that this picture is full of zest and life.

In all, our photos are social commentaries to archive the memories of Dakota as cultural artefacts of Singapore’s past, encouraging Singaporeans to revisit Dakota before it’s demolished.
