What you should know

Most people are sure that it is very easy to play guitar and sing simultaneously. However, not everyone agrees with this opinion.

It is obvious that a professional vocalist with brilliant guitar technique can sing and play at the same time. In this case, the musician is able to control everything: which muscles should be relaxed and which muscles have to work hard. The vocalist performs songs with a straight spine and a relaxed larynx; their face muscles do what they are supposed to do, and this musician is completely calm. There is nothing to worry about when you have prepared and trained properly. Of course, it is not very easy to achieve this result because people should practise singing and playing guitar for a long time. Sometimes they spend years learning these techniques. I think the most difficult skill is to be a lead guitarist and a singer. Also, it is rather difficult to play bass and sing.

On the contrary, anyone who does not have a good singing technique and has poor guitar skills will not be able to do both of these things properly simultaneously. Usually, such musician makes mistakes and even looks nervous. The reason for being nervous is a lack of complete control over the techniques. Even if a musician looks confident, they might have problems with relaxation, and, as we know, any tension is not good for singing or playing guitar. Some musicians ignore this rule and risk their health. Every person is different, so the problems with health differ too. However, in general, singing guitarists might complain about their vocal folds, spine, fingers, hands, and arms. That does not mean that professional musicians never have such health issues, nevertheless, when they get control over techniques they have more chances to stay healthy.

Thus, the skill of simultaneous guitar playing and singing does not look like an easy one. It takes a lot of time to achieve fine results in both of these techniques and to get a full control on performing.
