I was quite interested in YouTube automation when I first heard about it. I love YouTube, and the term “automation” just seems so natural and straightforward.

Also, I kept watching videos about channels earning thousands of dollars and gaining millions of easy views.

So, I decided to try it for myself for 90 days to see if this is really the case.

What surprises me the most about these types of videos is that very few show the results of this method. The vast majority just show SocialBlade stats from other channels.

Here it’s going to be different. I’m going to show you the real results of the YouTube automation channel that I created from scratch.

Now, can you make money with a faceless YouTube channel powered by AI?

Let’s see.

What is Youtube Automation and What is This Method About?

Essentially, YouTube automation consists of creating content on the platform without showing your face.

As far as this goes, many ways of doing this using artificial intelligence have become popular lately, and can be used for both long-form content and YouTube Shorts.

However, the most popular method I’ve seen is to use a combination of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Canva.

Basically, the steps are as follows:

  1. Pick a niche and choose a format for your video. An example could be something as simple as Intro — Question — Answer — Outro.
  2. Ask ChatGPT to generate the content for you in a tabular format.
  3. Copy and paste the generated content into a spreadsheet.
  4. In Canva, create a video and upload the spreadsheet for bulk creation.

This last point is a bit more complex, as in bulk video creation is only available in the paid version of Canva.

However, Canva offers a 30-day free trial for the pro version, which you can use and cancel before you are charged.

This article is not an in-depth tutorial on how to do this whole process, but you can find hundreds of videos on YouTube that explain how to do it step by step.

How I did it (And how you shouldn’t)

Well, with all this in mind, I went for it and started building my YouTube automation business.

I decided first of all to go for YouTube Shorts instead of long-form content, since it is the format that best fits with this method.

I then chose the niche. One of the most important lessons I learned was that I needed to pick a niche subject with a high CPM for my YouTube automation channel.

The price that advertisers pay to appear in front of your audience is known as CPM.

I therefore made the decision to launch a channel about online income opportunities after listening to all the gurus who claimed that the best CPM niches were those that discussed topics like finance, real estate, and money.

Once I had the content generated by ChatGPT and the video made in Canva, using the free trial I created a total of 90 videos in bulk one video to upload every day for the next 3 months.

Next, I needed to spend some more time uploading all the videos (I decided to leave them all scheduled), generating unique descriptions with ChatGPT and doing some research to make sure that the right keywords and hashtags were being used for each video.

All of this process took me approximately 2 weeks — although obviously you can do it much faster if you dedicate yourself exclusively to it.

Now I just had to wait and watch the money grow in my bank account.

After all, all the gurus had told me that I was going to get rich and achieve financial freedom using this strategy.

Well, after 90 days of uploading a daily video to my YouTube channel, these are the results:

YouTube Monetization?

Oh, well.

Main Takeaways and some Positive Advice for YouTube Starters

I’m not gonna lie to you, the results were exactly what I expected: a total flop.

Even so, during the process I learned a number of valuable lessons.

If you actually want to break through on YouTube then you need to bear these in mind:

A niche market is crucial specially when it comes to long-form content.

It is important that you choose a topic that piques people’s interest both now and in the near future.

And, in order to be consistent, I highly recommend you to pick a niche you’re deeply interested about.

I know this might be discouraging. But, to be profitable on YouTube, as with any business model, you must invest money to make money.

You will see faster results if you invest in things like quality thumbnails, a really good editor, and mentorship that will give you an advantage over trying to do it alone.

If you can, surround yourself with people who are capable of turning your vision into a reality.

You can easily find highly valuable people in places such as Upwork or Fiverr, or even by connecting through social media.

Avoid having false expectations.

Sure, if you do it right, you can quickly make a ton of money on YouTube, but it always requires work, time and effort.

The term “YouTube automation”, in my opinion, is extremely deceptive because it implies that this process is straightforward and easy, but in reality, it’s anything but that.

Because YouTube is so competitive, having high-quality content, well-produced videos, and a devoted fan base are essential for you to stand out.

And you must invest time in creating captivating video subjects, engaging scripts, and attention-grabbing edits if you want to succeed in that.

If you don’t already have all those skills, you’ll need to invest in a competent editor and a good thumbnail designer. Plus, it will take you a lot of time and effort to manage the entire team and process.

It is clear that YouTube automation is anything but automated. Actually, the only real distinction between a typical YouTuber and a YouTube automation creator is that the latter does not appear on camera.

Nevertheless, you are still in charge of all other aspects of the channel’s functions, and whether the channel is successful or not is ultimately up to you.

The days of creating a channel and earning hundreds of thousands of dollars by uploading nothing but rain sounds are over. That low-hanging fruit is now far too easy to come by.

Gurus essentially coined the term “YouTube automation” to make the business model appear simpler than it is (and, of course, make money in the process). In actuality, it’s not at all simple.

That being said, YouTube is a marathon, not a sprint.

And if you’re willing to put in the time and effort instead of looking for the fast track, I’m sure that with consistency you can achieve great results within the YouTube world.
