10 things I wish I knew before launching my last product

  1. There are hundreds of sites where I can submit my product to get free exposure and traffic
  2. Ads are a fast way to get traffic but they are pretty expensive. If I am using ads, I should consider Facebook and always use Facebook Pixels to optimize ad delivery
  3. SEO does not make sense until the product generates revenue. SEO is a slow and effort consuming process. So I should not depend on SEO for my initial launch.
  4. My product must have a payment or monetization option at the start… even if I do not give a compelling reason to upgrade to the paid slot
  5. I should launch my product as soon as I can. There is zero risk in launching early.
  6. The real feedback I get for my product is when people who do not know me start using the product.
  7. I should talk to people who signed-up for my product but stopped using it. They are the ones with the most valuable insight for my product.
  8. There are two kinds of things that we have to work on in a product: The product features, the tech that powers the product. I should spend more time on building useful features for the users and less time finding the best tech for that problem. Any tech that solves that problem fast is good enough for the launch
  9. Selling is hard… even if the product is free. So the earlier I start, the better chances I have of getting some users when I launch
  10. Just because a product is free does not mean that people will jump into using it. I still need to reach the right people and also give them one compelling reason to join

There are more things that I learnt. If you want me to elaborate on something with examples, do let me know. I will create a separate post for them.

Also, do share what you have learnt so that I can learn from you :)

I am Ron and I share my experiences about tech products and launches. I am still learning a bunch of stuff so I share what I learn.
