Onions — know why onions were important to Egyptian kings

Onions add a kick in kitchens all over the world, providing a savory goodness that blends well with other foods.

But did you know that onions were really precious to the Egyptians in ancient world. In Egypt, onions were considered to be an object of worship. The onion symbolized eternity to the Egyptians who buried onions along with their Pharaohs. The Egyptians saw eternal life in the anatomy of the onion because of its circle-within-a-circle structure.

So, when you are chopping onions next time you can either thing of the kings buried in onions and tear up or you can do the following to avoid all the tears:

1. Use goggles

2. Freeze the onions for 15–20 minutes before chopping.

3. Soak it into salt water for a while.
