BOM vs Product Structure

It is very easy to get confused with terminology about Bill of Materials, Engineering, and Manufacturing. Just give you some ideas — Part List, BOM, Product Structure, Assembly, Product Infromation.. .the list can grow.

We decided to stop the confusion. In this educational webinar, Steve Hess, Director of User Experience at OpenBOM speaks about Bill of Materials development, BOM maturity and information that can be added to BOM.

The value of BOM is in the data about the product it collects and shares. In such a way by collecting many pieces of information together, you increase the value and maturity of BOM.

I hope you learned more about BOM and Productructure, complexity and information that can be included in the Bill of Materials to make it more valuable for organization. Part List, BOM, Product Structure. Those are not different things. They represent the data about the product. Depends on the maturity level, you can hear a specific definition and naming. By growing these data sets, you increase control over product design and manufacturing processes. Also, carefully crafted BOM gives you a great source of information about everything you need.
