Heads up Onshape users, custom properties support is coming
Onshape users with a paid professional account have access to custom properties, an advanced property definition mechanism. Learn more about Onshape custom properties by clicking, here.
There are multiple use cases when you might decide to create custom properties in Onshape. Here are few examples: (1) to capture vendor information and use it in the drawing and (2) to define part type, e.g., engineering, purchased, phantom.
The soon to be available OPENBOM production update will provide users the possibility to extract Onshape custom properties into a BOM. The following video will show you how to define an assembly type custom property and add it to an OPENBOM BOM.
Conclusion. The OPENBOM integration with Onshape is becoming more robust. The new custom property mechanism is one reason why. Stay tuned for more updates coming soon. If you think something is missing or you need support for a specific scenario in the OPENBOM integration with Onshape, please let me know: oleg @ openbom dot com.

PS. Let’s get to know each other better. If you live in the Greater Boston area, I invite you for a coffee together (coffee is on me). If not nearby, let’s have a virtual coffee session — I will figure out how to send you a real coffee.
