Heads up: OpenBOM to Onshape instant data update

BAM!!! I have some great news to share with all Onshape customers using OpenBOM to manage Onshape Bill of Materials. Currently, data in Onshape can be updated on demand by clicking on the “Update Onshape Properties” button. And yes, I know, many of you have complained quite a bit about this button.

We’ve been working on how to make it easier for you. Today, I want to share an early preview of how data is instantly updated between OpenBOM and Onshape. In the following video, below, you can see the OpenBOM and Onshape app side by side. After a simple BOM is created from the model, a simple demonstration of how data changes made in OpenBOM are instantly and transparently transferred to Onshape.

I’m excited about this coming enhancement and hope so you are as well. I’m confident it will simplify the data flow of many users creating BOMs in Onshape.

Conclusion. We’ve made a further step towards our promise to make the OpenBOM-Onshape user experience more transparent. If you may recall, a few months ago we introduce transparent login to OpenBOM in Onshape. In the last production update, we made it possible to update Onshape Part / Assembly names. The next update will eliminate the need to click on that annoying ‘update’ button to update data from OpenBOM to Onshape. U look forward to your feedback and comments. Tell me what you think and how can further improve the Onshape — OpenBOM integration.

Best, Oleg

PS. Let’s get to know each other better. If you live in the Greater Boston area, I invite you for a coffee together (coffee is on me). If not nearby, let’s have a virtual coffee session — I will figure out how to send you a real coffee.
