Managing non-model parts in Bill of Materials is one of the most typical questions asked by many OpenBOM users.

OpenBOM has a solution for such problem which is built inside of all OpenBOM integrations.

It is support in all CAD integration plug-ins and also in OpenBOM integration with Excel.

Today, I’m going to show you how to add non-model part to BOM created in Onshape.

To do so, I will generate a part list for Onshape assembly and, after BOM will be generated, add new item to BOM for Glue item (cannot think about anything different than glue).

Item will be added and OpenBOM will remember that this item is different from all other items extracted from Onshape. Which means that every single update OpenBOM does with Onshape, this item (part) will stay despite it is not added to Onshape.

Check this video:

Conclusion.

Non-model part items is a powerful mechanism to build Engineering BOM from CAD data and OpenBOM does it in a perfect way. It is supported in all CAD systems.

PS. Let’s get to know each other better. If you live in the Greater Boston area, I invite you for a coffee together (coffee is on me). If not nearby, let’s have a virtual coffee session — I will figure out how to send you a real coffee.
