OpenBOM — Solidworks data exchange bits and bytes

OpenBOM is coming with Solidworks integration enhancements. Meantime, I’ve got few questions earlier today related to specific aspects of Solidworks attributes configuration to support data exchange between OpenBOM and Solidworks. There are 3 things to keep in mind.
1- Part Number
2- Description
3- Custom attributes
4- Configuration specific attributes
Let me start with Part Number. Solidworks has 3 options to assign part number — 1/ Document Name; 2/ Configuration Name; 3/ User Specific name. OpenBOM will retrieve Part Number in any case, but will be able to sync it back ONLY if the option is set to user specific name. Please keep it in mind. Description must be configured as well to be extracted to BOM.
In addition to that, OpenBOM will retrieve all custom attributes as well as all configuration specific attributes. Configuration attributes will be taken from an active configuration.
The follow video will give you an idea how it works.
Conclusion.
We are working to make the data exchange between Solidworks and OpenBOM as seamless as possible. If you think we are missing some workflows, please reach me out oleg @ openbom dot com. I’d be happy to discuss it and apply fixes in one of our coming releases.
Best, Oleg
PS. Let’s get to know each other better. If you live in the Greater Boston area, I invite you for a coffee together (coffee is on me). If not nearby, let’s have a virtual coffee session — I will figure out how to send you a real coffee.
