Amber fort


The city of Amber is a small town located at 11 kilometers north-east of Jaipur in the state of Rajasthan in India. It was the ancient capital of Kachwahas, a dynasty that ruled the region since 966. If Amber has lost its importance when the power was transferred to Jaipur in 1727, the Maharaja of Jaipur, Bhawani Singh is the successor of the dynasty millennium.

The Amber fortress is the citadel of Kachwahas since the 12th century, but it was not until 1590 that Raja Man Singh I built the fortifications and magnificent palaces. The vassal of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, Raja Man Singh I imitated the Mughal architectural style for the construction of this magnificent fortress.

These palaces will then be embellished by other Rajas.
The strategic location of the fortress of Amber at the top of a mountain gorge, in which there is a beautiful lake and the beautifull Rajput palace forcing the admiration of all tourists who come to Jaipur to visit this wonder of Rajasthan.

Visitors can access the Amber fort on foot, by car or on elephant back. These enormous pachyderms who take their bath in the lake waters are harnessed to a platform allowing four people to climb the steep road to the base of the citadel, in front of the large door access, Suraj Pol.

On top of a grand staircase, a door will lead you to Diwan-i-Am, the Hall of Public Audience rectangular vessels with a double row of magnificent pillars representing an elephant's head at the top.

Ganesh Pol is an absolute beauty! This is the ceremonial door that leads to the palace of rajas and to the beautifully landscaped gardens in French style. The decorations of the door have floral and geometric designs of the representation of Ganesh, the famous god at elephant head.

We will notice that the decoration of the rooms of Jai Mandir with colored glass mosaics, typical floral and geometric motifs of Mughal architecture.
