Productivity done right

We have powerful pocket devices today. Yet, when we chat, email or write on the go, switching between apps in the middle of our flow is complicated, slow and ineffective. This is a story of how our adventure started.

The click moment for me and Jose was regarding the randomness of two common questions we asked ourselves while remotely working together on a project.

“Are you free for a meeting next Wednesday?”

“Also, could you share the latest wireframes with me?”

When I saw these questions on my iPhone screen, I did what we all do: I switched from the email app to the calendar app, checked my availability, then switched from the calendar to Dropbox, copied the file link, and finally switched back to the email app to paste it. Switch, switch and switch again. That was it. Three switches that made my head click.

To me, it didn’t feel right at all. That whole process was tedious and time-consuming. It really felt complicated, slow and ineffective. The whole switching thing bothered me. So I asked myself:

“Couldn’t it be smoother?”

Shouldn’t multi-tasking be agile instead of clumsy and sluggish?

Wouldn’t it be better if all that switching between apps was off the picture?

I shared all my thoughts with Jose and that’s how Thingthing was born. Simple, fast and effective. That’s how we believed the experience should be.

However, the current experience was way too far from that, so there was a problem that needed to be fixed first. To be sure the solution was highly-effective, we turned ourselves to Francesc and Xevi, two coder friends.

They quickly joined the team, willing to share ideas and explore options until we all together came with a solution to improve the experience:

We had our mission, we knew what we wanted, we just needed to work on it. And we worked hard.
