Are you curious to know what it’s like to live as a digital nomad day in and day out? Here’s our account of what a typical day looks like for a digital nomad…

According to recent research, digital nomads normally consist of 64% males and 36% females and between the ages of 30–39. They also, apparently visit 5–10 countries per year, staying in one location for an average of 1–4 months. Digital nomads can make money from a variety of different sources, including: working remotely part-time for a business, helping small businesses with online and social media marketing and running their own travel/lifestyle blog.

So, being a digital nomad definitely has it perks, working poolside, or on a beach for example. However, it’s fair to say that most digital nomads do actually spend some time in front of a computer and not sipping on cocktails, but maybe not as much as the typical 9–5 office workers would!

Whether they set an alarm clock or not, digital nomads can wake up whenever they please, however some individuals would probably base the time they set their alarms on how much work they have on their plate for the day ahead. Working as a digital nomad means every day varies, they can create their own schedule and be as flexible as they want to be. Once they are awake, in whatever time zone they may be in, they spend some time focusing on what work they have to do for the day. This might be the time of day when they are most focused and can give any task/project/article their complete attention.

A project/task/article for a digital nomad can include anything from, working for a business, reading and answering emails, working on digital marketing for either a client or another business e.g copywriting, social posts or emails. They also may like to put their personal and daily lives into writing by developing travel/lifestyle posts to put on their blog. It’s also key for them to network alongside other travel and lifestyle bloggers through social media platforms.

Once the hard work is done, mostly by early or mid afternoon, digital nomads have the chance to have the day to themselves and maybe explore the city they are currently in, or if the weather isn’t too good — maybe just stay in and relax, watching Netflix.

In the evenings, nomads may make dinner in their Airbnb or hotel room, or maybe visit the gym for an evening workout. Some may even follow up on any work or social media posts that need immediate attention, or make a plan for the next day, making note of what they need to accomplish.

The great thing about being a digital nomad is the exposure to a variety of different countries and cultures. The whole reason for operating within this lifestyle business is so individuals can enjoy themselves and experience different cultures.

It seems clear that you need a balance in life to become a digital nomad. When you are starting out, you may need to put a lot of time and effort into projects. However, at the end of it you are rewarded for your hard work, and you can enjoy everything you are wanting in life — which can be anything from learning a new skill or experiencing a different culture.
