SECOND SKIN
While shopping at the farmers market, you find a curious cart nestled behind the rest of the venders. Its salesman has the usual gambit of fresh produce; Fire Tongue Apples from the Aluminum Fields, Credence Grapes from the Vines of Hephaestus growing in the Lunar mines. Even a handful of those Comet String Pears you’ve been thinking about. And of course, he has oranges, but not the typical class of orange. The vender claims each orange has a different surprise hidden beneath its skin. "If you can manage to completely peel one of these," the old man boasts "I’ll give you all of the goods I’ve got. Hell I’ll give ya my house." Intrigued, you purchase a single orange & make the trip home.
Before you even exit the parking lot, you find yourself reaching into the bag, anxious to unravel the mysterious fruit. The skin comes off easily & you think that the vender has made probably the worst wager of his life, that is until your eyes gaze upon the oranges second skin.
Its translucent & you can see the inner orange trapped below, but this second skin seems denser, somehow, more massive than its hand-held size lets on. And it isnt rounded, but angled. A seemingly infinite number of right angles, shifting & changing positions every few moments, moving & reorganizing itself every time you reach to solve its riddle.
Peeling an orange hypercube is going to be more of a challenge than you thought.
