Unfamiliar Filipino Words, their Definition and Examples
We Filipinos has its own way on how to speak our own language but some words are forgotten and never knew so far. In our generation it is difficult to teenagers to make time learning words due to influence of other language, the newly discover and popular words. Based on my own observation, some Filipinos are fluent when it comes to our international language but they are struggling with our own language.
Here are some 10 unfamiliar words. These words are not often used by so many nowadays because the words that we used are now changing for example being conyo, a combined english and tagalog. The reason why we are lack of vocabulary words in Filipino language. These are definition, and example for each when used in a sentence.
- Paminggalan
English Translation: Kitchen
Definition: a place (such as a room) with cooking facilities
Sentence Examples: Lahat ay nabighani sa angking ganda ng paminggalan ng aming pamilya.
2. Pang-ulong Hatinig
English Translation: Headset
Definition: A device that is usually creating sound with the used of technology deviced like cellphone, tablet and etc.
Sentence Example: Kami ngayon ay mayroong online class ngunit hindi ko maintidihang maigi ang talakayan kung kaya’t ginamit ko ang aking pang-ulong hatinig.
3. Halgambilang
English Translation: Score/grade
Definition: It is usually a mark indicating a degree of accomplishment in school.
Sentence Example: Hindi basehan ang halgambilang upang mangutya ng ibang tao.
4. Pinilakang-tabing
English Translation: cinema
Definition: a theater where movies are shown for public entertainment; a movie theater.
Sentence Example: Si Isko Moreno ay naging sikat na artista sa pinilakang tabing bago naging pulitiko.
5. Hiraya
English Translation: Vision
Definition: the fruit of one’s dreams, wishes and aspirations.
Sentence Example: Kay talas ng hiraya mo kung tanaw mo ang kagandahan ng Bulkan mula sa kalayuan.
6. Datung
English Translation: money/cash
Definition: any item or verifiable record that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts, such as taxes, in a particular country or socio-economic context.
Sentence Example: Mahirap kumita ng datung sa panahon ngayon, kailangan ng doble-dobleng kayod.
7. Puhon
English Translation: God’s Time/ hopefully
Definition: This expression is said when you are hoping something will happen in the future.
Sentence Example: Matatapos din ang lahat ng ito, puhon.
8. Pagmaya
English Translation: rejoicing
Definition: a feeling of great happiness.
Sentence Example: Labis ang pagmaya ng mga tao sa aming barangay nang malaman nila ang magandang balita.
9. Miktinig
English Translation: microphone
Definition: Instrument whereby sound are cause to generate an electric current.
Sentence Example: Gumamit ng miktinig ang makata upang marinig siya ng maraming tao.
10. Sapantaha
English Transation: a hunch or presumption
Definition: suspecting, the state of mind of one who suspects.
Sentence Example: May sapantaha ako na muling magbubukas ang dating restawrant na madalas nating tambayan sa kadahilanang may bago itong may-ari.
