Dead Sea Salt is Actually Amazing
It’s not just a set of buzz words to sell mall kiosk items.
The Dead Sea is basically a 15 million year old lake, which has a has a salinity of 34.2%. It’s called the Dead Sea because it is so salty that hardly anything can survive inside of it.
Dead Sea salt consists of over 20 elements, but let’s take a look at the really important ones when it comes to our bodies:
Calcium — Dead Sea salt is 0.1% to 0.5% calcium chloride. I think we’re all fairly aware of why we need calcium in our bodies.
Sodium — Probably pretty self explanatory. This is about 3% to 8% of the makeup of Dead Sea salt.
Potassium — 20–28 %.
Magnesium — Magnesium makes up about 30–35% of Dead Sea Salt’s composition. Magnesium is part of over 600 reactions in your body. It is involved in energy creation, protein formation, DNA repair, cell signaling, muscle movements, nervous system regulation, and much more.
Now, let’s discuss some of the uses.
Pain Relief — this is my number one Dead Sea salt brag. I have Fibromyalgia. I have 20 pounds of Dead Sea Salt next to my bath, and I regularly soak in it. It helps. It does a much better job that Epsom Salts. Check out this study for how it helped fibro patients here. This is also a great sore muscle soak after heavy physical activity for anyone.
Anti Bacterial Wound Soak — We talked about it killing all the organisms in the Dead Sea. Mixed with warm water, this is a great wound wash. Be sure to use distilled, clean water.
Skin Exfoliation — I make all of my scrubs with Dead Sea salt. While a bit too harsh for the face unless refined, it’s a great body exfoliate. I even sometimes put it into my bars of soap for some exfoliation power.
Chronic Skin Conditions — It has been known to help psoriasis, eczema, acne, and other forms of dermatitis. (I’m definitely mixing some salt water up with a little tea tree for my husband’s seborrheic dermatitis.)
Rheumatoid Arthritis — Yes. I’m serious. Check out this study. Try soaking in it 20 min a day and see how you feel.
A Bug Bite Healer — This is my own personal study. I have skeeter syndrome and soaking in Dead Sea salt baths definitely reduces healing time.
Of course, what about metaphysically? Well, Dead Sea salt is a powerful energetic cleanser and is used for protection. It can also boost healing energy. A lot of its magic is pretty apparent just from what it can do for your body. The whole energetic feel of dead sea salt is incredibly calming as well!
