I have been fortunate to work on solving some of the the most pressing security (nuclear, weapons and cyber) challenges of our time and have done so with the most talented and impressive people. I hold you among the elite, even in that group.
It was apparent to me when we first met that you were unlike any others. Most will point to your raw intellect and powers of articulate persuasion as your core strength. But those are innate gifts.
What has impressed me most is your desire to be a seeker. A seeker is someone who always wants to know more, to the point where their mind becomes restless. If you’re a seeker, you’re not just curious — you are defined by your curiosity.
You’ve proven to be hard-working and dedicated, sometimes obstinate. Being the 1st employee in any organization is hard. You are the embodiment of what every founder or leader of an organization would desire in a colleague: mission driven, dedicated to excellence, and not accepting of the status quo.
While the mission has always been the same, we’ve all taken on new roles, new life and time constraints and new perspectives over the last three years.
Your contribution to Area 1 Security has been profound. From our first website, to the hand crafting of lego trade show booth, to the leadership of our first “summer friends” program, to some of the most integral systems that are currently protecting hundreds of thousands of people and will soon protect hundreds of millions of people around the world, you have played a part. You have made each of your colleagues more successful and allowed the next generation of our team to stand higher to achieve greater things.
The great father of surfing, Duke Kahanamoku, wisely advised: “Be patient. Wave come. Wave always come.” I know you will be successful in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue. Enjoy the journey, it’s really what defines us.
All the Best,
