Celebrities are very important role models. Whatever they do, whatever they say can easily inspire and impact people around the world. Being celebrities, they are idolized by many people, mostly young individuals. Thus their thoughts on certain topics, their support to certain ideologies and movements can also make difference in society and big impact on people’s lives.

Because of these possible outcomes, being a celebrity also brings big responsibility. Aware of their responsibilities, some famous names work hard for being a good role model and support environmentally friendly movements.

One of these movements celebrities advocate is sustainable fashion movement. More and more celebs are declaring themselves supporter of eco-fashion actions.

Here are 5 celebrities who work hard for making fashion industry more sustainable…

1. Emma Watson

“ I made a choice last year that I would only wear sustainable fashion on the red carpet. The fashion industry is the second-biggest pollutant of fresh water on the planet. It has such a huge environmental impact and such a big human impact. And it’s just not enough for me anymore that it’s a beautiful item or a beautiful piece.”

Besides being an award-winning actress, Emma Watson is also one of the main faces for sustainable fashion. Harry Potter actress started to draw attention to eco-fashion with her red carpet looks. As part of “The Green Carpet Challenge”, she made appearances with outfits that are made through sustainable practices. In addition to wear sustainable clothes, young star also creates sustainable pieces herself. Besides launching “Feel Good Style” site dedicated to sustainable fashion & natural beauty, she has also teamed up with British fair trade brand People Tree and has created three collections made through fair trade practices and upcycled fabrics.

2. Pharrell Williams

“Fashion can be a universal player in protecting the planet. Fashion is certainly a huge part of everybody’s lives. You wear it every day and for some people it’s a status symbol, or a statement of how much they have spent on clothes, or it’s a means of expressing their identity and who they are.”

Pop singer Pharrell Williams is another famous name who works hard for making a positive change through his sustainable fashion actions. Becoming the creative director of Bionic Yarn, a company creates threads and fabrics from recycled plastic bottles, he uses all his power to make fashion industry more sustainable. Pharell has also involved with denim line, RAW for the Oceans, turning plastic taken from the world’s oceans into denim and apparel.

3. Olivia Wilde

“Sustainability has got a bad reputation, especially in fashion. I think people assume the clothes will be dull, the fabrics uncomfortable and the design uninspiring. It’s like people think sustainability is a penance. This couldn’t be further from the truth, and the H&M Conscious Exclusive collection shows that sustainability is no compromise on style…

…I also hope the rest of the fashion industry is watching. I think this is how all fashion should be. Great style that’s naturally more sustainable.”

Beautiful actress Olivia Wilde is also a big supporter of sustainable fashion movement. Wilde collaborated with H&M on its Conscious Exclusive 2015 Collection, a fashion collection used recycled polyester and organic cotton. Wilde who has a great passion to show that sustainable fashion can also be stylish and exciting, is also a co-founder of the online marketplace Conscious Commerce that pairs charities and non-profit organizations with big brands.

4. Livia Firth

“Call it ‘eco-fashion’ if you like, but I think it’s just common sense.”

Sometimes described as “the Queen of the Green Carpet”, Livia Firth, is a very fierce warrior of eco-fashion. Besides being the founder and creative director of the brand Eco Age, Livia was also the driving force behind the Green Carpet Challenge (GCC) launched in 2009. Famous film producer was awarded a UN Leader of Change Award with her GCC actions and was awarded a Sustainable Standard Setter Award with her Eco-Age brand.

5. Will.i.am

“We buy things. We throw things when there are trashcans right over there. But, why are they going to chuck them in the trashcan if nobody gives them a reason to take a couple of steps and put it in that recycle bin. How does my activity and culture, and society lend the whole concept to I’m going to buy this water bottle, chuck it here, because it’s going to turn into something else. So, that’s when it all came — when I had the idea.”

Partnered with Coca-Cola in 2012 to create his Ekocycle line, famous singer and songwriter Will.i.am has always played an active role in promoting the importance of recycling activities. Will.i.am created his Ekocycle clothing line, turning old aluminium and plastic waste into clothing and luggage, also collaborated with multiple household names to produce sustainable products.
