For the readings I believe that they were gathered to understanding information and how users interpret information visually.
For the first paper I read it was “Toward an ecology of hypertext annotation” this paper in simplification is understanding how we as people mark and visualize important information. The start of the paper was annotation and many features annotation and how its categorized and how the categories are compared. For example “Published and private” In the paper it presents private as user writes in book
and published are notes that the author purposefully inserted to help convey information. This papers purpose was to help understand users interpretation of information on annotation and hypertext. This paper helped lead to many annotation based software. Though the purpose was understanding users cognitive understanding on annotations and how on a categorical level how annotations are visually presented.
Next paper “Two-Dimensional Spatial Positioning as a Means for Reflection in Design” presented the way information is seen. They used this through “reflection-in-action” which is when a user reflects why drawing there image. The paper gives an example of a drawer reflecting on a square while drawing the square and allow him to sit back and reflect. TThis helps with presenting the cognitive actions of design and help us understand designers and the interaction of position to development.
Finally is the last paper “ Promoting Reflection and Interpretation in Education: Curating Rich Bookmarks as Information Composition” This paper is understanding information on a virtual scale and how we reflect on it. The paper first presents Curation which is the process of searching and collecting data on a digital scale. This is important for use to understand how using visual aids can help us on an educational situation.
All three of these papers were to present the works of information and understanding users needs to organize and interpret the information. But there are similar comparisons of papers such as the first paper and the second paper are both organization of text based on position. Though the second paper presents it on a 2 dimensional plane. while the 3rd paper uses the idea of reflect-in-action and moves it to a more virtual world by using a large scale of data gathered from media, internet, and other online sources. These contributions of all the papers are important for they allows us to get insight no how users organize, extract, interpret information on many different scales and planes.
This information can be used in many projects one I particularly want to use it is on sketch recognition if we can follow reflect-in-action we can understand on an educational point of view how people are learning and how we can provide feedback to help them down the correct path to the right answer such as for math, physics, and other classes.
