Day 72: Green is the colour of my mourning

Because it was my father’s favourite colour

So when I was in nursery school I coloured an entire page of butterflies and flowers green to please him

Because he created green everywhere he went

He could manipulate a garden of different shades of greens from the most arid of soils

Because the country of my birth captures this in our national flag

And it is in this Nigerian soil that my brother and my father have their earthly remains treasured

And green signifies life

And a bud of life brings hope

And hope is the sister of faith and love

And we have a hope that we will one day be inseparable

Because we believe in the eternity of the spirit
