Indeed I’m sure many other cultures can relate. I am lucky that my parents also never put pressure on me (or my sisters for that matter). It’s really sad that so many women in Nigeria are so pressured that I’m sure many have just ‘settled’ for whomever just so they can have a husband.
What makes it more annoying is that the pressure is always on the woman. Yes, we know biology dictates the ‘best years’ for child bearing, however that shouldn’t mean women should be basically taught to be desperate for a husband. It would be great to have a balanced approach: both boys and girls should be encouraged to have a realistic view of marriage being an institution between two people. That way as adults they can make informed decisions with no pressure.
