Thanks Aphrodite (what a lovely name!)
I generally try to use images that have the same or similar message to what I’m writing. Most times these are stock images. In cases where I use personal images, it’s either because they fit what I’m trying to tell, or that (as is the case with this one,) the story was inspired by the photo itself.
Please do not be offended, but I must say I no longer like using the word ‘exotic’ as a compliment, and I’ll tell you why. First of all, I also used to use it, so I’m not speaking from a pedestal or trying to sound preachy. The word usually holds the recipient in a place that is ‘other,’ even if it is meant in a good or beautiful way. And somehow it is mostly used to refer to non-white peoples/cultures. To some, it evokes unsavoury feelings of being watched or scrutinized (based upon how the word has been used historically.)
Again, I fully appreciate your comment, and know you were sincere in your compliments. Please don’t take what I’ve said as a harsh reprimand, I just wanted to respond to your sincerity with my own.
