Things that will stay with me

There are so many amazing women in my life. I hope they know it

Thank you for giving me the biggest hug, even though you didn’t know me well, when I was crying. That was one of the worst days of my life. That was the onset of my identity crisis, and I was convinced I would go mad. You hugged me, then took me out for a walk, then bought me an ice cream. You said:

I don’t have much money, but I am giving you this with all my love.

I will never forget. Thank you lady.

Thank you for sleep overs and laughter. Thank you because I really needed that break. Thank you because you proved to me that the ‘smallest’ gifts are often the most impactful and heartfelt. We went to the drugstore and you knew I was broke. And you wanted to make me smile. You said:

Hey, I want you to show me the mascara you usually use, I wanted to buy one for you as a little gift.

I’m still using it today (September 2016.) Thank you bff who is turning into a sister.

Thank you for always listening. And kindness. And assertiveness. You remind me that there is strength in rest. You don’t laugh at my faith in science. You share the triumphs and tears of your experiments. You listen to me. I should really start paying you as a shrink. You make work days better. You always say:

Remember on the days when work isn’t working, that this is not your life. It is just a part of it. Soon we’ll be done with this PhD.

We started together, and we’ve made it this far. Thank you friend ❤

I say a prayer over you
that on the days you need it the most
just at the point you feel you can’t make it through
angels will surround you and hold you close
and these angels, they often take a human form
so however small never discount the good you’ve done
because you may have been a ray of hope in a rainstorm
and your ‘little act of love’ may be what leads someone back to the sun.
