5 Things you should not forget to Pack for Travel to China

1. Toilet Paper

I’m not even kidding. There’s a serious lack of toilet paper in Chinese bathrooms. In the West, we are so accustomed to toilet paper that we take it for granted, like the air we breathe.

2. VPN Service

The greatest problem for people who can’t live without social media (who can these days?) is posed by the Great Firewall of China. This digital fortress blocks access to popular social media websites including Twitter, Facebook Google, and YouTube.

3. Deodorant

The Chinese aren’t very fond of deodorants or even perfumes. And no this isn’t because they have a better developed tolerance for body odor than Westerners. Surprising as it may sound, but the Chinese don’t have as much apocrine sweat glands as people of other ethnicities.

4. Plug/Power Converters

Electricity standards aren’t uniform throughout the world. In the US, the standard voltage output on sockets is 110V, while 220V is the more common voltage level used in most of Asia and Europe.

5. Insect Repellant

A good insect repellant can be incredibly useful if you want to visit rural towns of China where mosquitoes and other bugs can make your life hell. Although my hotel room was quite comfortable and free from a mosquito attack, restaurants in Hangzhou with outside dining were an absolute torture.

Wrapping Up

Travel to China is an experience that I highly doubt any other country can offer. Everything about the country is so culturally unique and you’ll thoroughly enjoy the adorable customs endemic to the country. Just make you don’t forget to carry the items mentioned above and you’re in for the time of your life.
