Science Fiction: The Libertarian Genre

Both winners and nominees and their whole volume of work is a great example. They’re the intentional examples, but lots of science fiction is what I will call unintentional examples. These are settings points that have libertarian themes or implications the creator didn’t intend on.

Adaptations are a complicated issue. Take Valerian for instance. The original comics are blatantly libertarian, but what will the film be like? I haven’t seen it yet, and don’t know when it will come out.

Dystopian literature is anti-authoritarian and thus at least leaning toward libertarianism, if not explicitly so.

Valerian Review (comics only with film speculation)

Check the above Being Libertarian link for it. They also put it as a video on their Facebook page and maybe YouTube too.

Maybe, Libertarian Science Fiction Review for more articles?

I don’t know, but it could be a future series of articles, but I’d have to reread and rematch the relevant works. I can only think of recent stuff off the top of my head. I watch lots of science fiction, but I should review fresh reads and views, not something out of years ago in my memory.

Politics of Science Fiction

Speculation is a great vehicle for exploring politics, which is why science fiction is such a good genre for politics.
