The PHP Array

The Array in PHP is not a the real array datatype we know in other programming languages like Java, it is actually an ordered map, The good thing about the map (ordered) datatype is that it can be treated as other datatypes: an actual array, a linked list, a dictionary etc.

You can instantiate an array in PHP in three different ways:

  • $array = array(‘me’, ‘and’, ‘you’);
  • $array = array(‘first’ => ‘me’, ‘second’ => ‘and’, ‘third’ => ‘you’);
  • $array = array(array(‘one’), ‘two’, array(‘three’));

Today, I spent useful hours creating an array function that already existed in PHP, I felt so bad when I found out. Please don’t do the same mistake. Find below a list of PHP array functions, use your time for something more productive.
