Hi,
Interesting angle. I’m a feminist too but I think its not the issue.
What happens here (in France) is mostly xenophobia against muslims, aggravated by recent events (killings in Nice on the 14th of July, priest murder in St-Etienne du Rouvray on the 26th of july).
The Striping : you established a comparison with CMNF but its irrelevant in this case. The muslim ladies on the beaches werent asked to go naked or half naked. Nakedness was not the issue. The issue wasnt to reveal the female body but to remove the presence of some religious signs.
You can stay totally dressed, fully covered, on any french beach, as well as in any public place (as long as your face isnt hidden). I’m often in that case, and theres no problem. Nobody cares, nobody should care. Its your right and thats why those municipal agents were wrong. Theres no such thing as a ‘police of clothing’ here.
The state : “ four men force the beachgoer to strip, submitting to their authority as agents of the State”.
You must check your facts. Those agents were not under the State authority. Those were “municipal” agents, ie acting as agents of the city mayor.
Theres no French law about burkinis. Theres no State oppression. The State Council will take position today 25/08/2016 around 3pm. It will be interesting to see what they state on this matter.
