OurBikes.org statement following unanimous public support for bike share stations in the Marina at today’s SFMTA Public Hearing
February 15th, 2019 — Today was a huge milestone for bike share in the Marina! At this morning’s SFMTA Public Hearing in City Hall, there was unanimous support for the two proposed bike share stations in the Marina at Bay & Fillmore and Buchanan & North Point. The addition of these two bike share stations will mean residents of the Marina will finally be a part of our bike share network after the first station was installed almost 6 years ago. Today’s hearing was a huge vote of confidence in support of increased mobility in District 2 provided by bike share. These bike share stations will make it easier for neighbors to get around the Marina, and commute to and from work and school. These stations will reduce car dependence, make our streets more safe, our air more clean, and provide an affordable way to get to and from the Marina.
These stations have been in the works for more than a year and they have the overwhelming support of our neighbors. Ford GoBike has done a fantastic and extensive job conducting community outreach for these stations. OurBikes.org has more than 60 bike share supporters who signed a petition asking for more bike share options in the neighborhoods surrounding these two stations. In just the past 72 hours, more than 15 neighbors have emailed the SFMTA and Supervisor Stefani in support of these stations. These stations also have the support of the local neighborhood association, Northern Neighbors, which published a letter in support of these stations signed by 16 neighbors. OurBikes.org thanks SFMTA staff, Supervisor Stefani’s staff, and everyone who spoke at today’s hearing, wrote letters, emails, and made phone calls to the SFMTA and Supervisor’s office in support of bike share stations in the Marina.
