John Oliver is wrong about saving journalism

Agreed. It always annoyed me that the Guardian wanted me to chuck in a few quid a week to support it — while paying its Editor £400,000 a year. If it’s a charity then let her take a pay cut, move the newspaper to cheaper offices in the North etc etc.

In addition it’s all very well blaming people for chasing clicks but if that’s what is keeping people in jobs then someone has to do it.

I guess the trick is, as you point out, to find a way to do it via quality journalism.
